Can eating disorders like Anorexia or Bulimia harm your teeth?

It is a startling fact to know that about 15% of girls fall prey to eating disorders. It is their preoccupation with weight that makes these girls walk into the clutches of Anorexia and Bulimia. Anorexia is a state wherein people start starving them of food and bulimia on the other hand is a compulsive eating disorder. In both the cases, people tend to cause them more harm than good.

How do these disorders cause harm?

In case, the patient is bulimic then there will be bouts of vomiting owing to the eating pattern. This vomiting is usually accompanied by gastric juices that make things worse causing:

  • Cavity
  • Loss of teeth
  • Decaying teeth
  • Discoloration of teeth
  • Losing the tooth enamel

Again, for an anorexic patient things may look different, but the damage that it wrecks is no different. Anorexia causes osteoporosis in many women and that in turn can weaken the bones including the jaw bones. Not to mention, that the malnutrition affect the whole immune system.

What is the solution?

In simple, there are a lot of solutions and it start with you. That is correct, the truth is you need to be careful and must the difference between healthy lifestyle and obsession. We all must remain healthy and live a salubrious life but you should not go overboard with it. In same way, you must restrict yourself to proper oral care when it comes to saving your teeth from rotting. Here are a few ways that you can employ to save your tooth:

  • Get into a routine concerning your oral care
